Night Moves 25007MIBND850C_5x4

This photograph has been added to the Dark Matters collection.

Gazing up at the night sky can be magical. You never know what might appear. A comet streaks across the sky among millions of stars, while an orange moon sets behind the silhouette mountain peaks. But wait, what else is in the sky…?

This surreal multiple-image photograph was created by combining three individual images. The background features a windswept beach near the ocean. This layer gives the sky texture and depth. The foreground image was captured at Crater Lake National Park in Oregon as the Neowise comet sped overhead. The comet has found a clear path through the sky rubble. The orange moon is the third image blended to complete the composite.

No One Watching 25008MIBHX2DC_4x3

This photograph appears in the Lands End collection. It is part of the Beached series.

I walked along the dunes near the ocean. The sand was rippled, and the shoreline grass was tall and yellow-orange. I was alone; no one was watching. The sun rose, and a gentle wind pushed the tips of the grass. It was quiet, serene, and beautiful. No one was watching.

This is a composite image. Two images were blended to create the final composite photograph: a photo of rippled sand and one of the dune grasses. The sand ripple photograph is the background, adding texture to the would-be sky and the overlapping foreground grasses. The combination gives the photograph a deep, high-contrast, stippled or grainy film photograph look.

Making A Point 25009MIBND850C_5x4

This photograph appears in the Lands End collection. It is part of the Beached series.

Making a Point captures the magic of a sunset by the ocean. The slanted rays of the sun produce a palette of colors. Sea spires cast shadows on the beach—a breathtaking and tranquil sight. The title is a clever wordplay. It describes the physical scene and serves as a metaphor for my objective.

This blended photograph was created by layering two separate images. The background features a self-painted Gelli plate mono-print. The foreground is a photograph taken at Bandon Beach, Oregon, USA. Together, the two enhance the color, texture, and depth of the image.

Fractured Landscape 25011MIBND850C_5x4

This photograph has been added to the Moments of Clarity collection.

Fractured Landscape is an expressive photograph created while thinking about what we can and can’t control about our environment. On the one hand, we can control almost everything. Then, it dawned on me that controlling is the wrong idea. For millions of years, the environment survived without human control. Instead, it is human behavior that impacts outcomes. The yellow lines metaphorically represent the fractured human divide.

One of the two images blended to make the final composite was taken at the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument, Painted Hills Unit, Mitchell, Oregon, USA. The other is a photograph taken in the Utah high desert.

The image was created in Adobe Photoshop using multiple layers and blending modes. No AI-generated elements were included.
